Avanti West Coast runs the West Coast Main Line out of London Euston, connecting the capital with Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Preston, Lancaster, Carlisle and on into Glasgow and Edinburgh. Most services still run on the tilting Class 390 Pendolino fleet — recently refurbished with over 2,000 extra standard-class seats and wireless chargers — alongside newer Hitachi-built “Evero” trains now joining the route. If a meeting moved, your dates changed, or you booked the wrong service, an unused Advance ticket doesn’t have to go to waste.
SaveMyFare lets you list an eligible unused ticket for another traveller to buy at a lower price than a fresh fare. It’s free to list, and you only pay a 10% platform fee if it sells.
Can you sell an unused Avanti West Coast ticket?
Avanti operates under the same National Rail Conditions of Travel as every other train operating company in Great Britain — there’s no separate rulebook for the West Coast Main Line. Under Condition 5, a ticket can be transferred if it wasn’t made out in your name or tied to a Railcard, the journey hasn’t started, and you don’t resell it for more than you paid. An Advance single from Euston to Manchester bought for £22 can be transferred for £22 or less, whatever a buyer might be willing to pay on a sold-out train.
Full detail on what qualifies is in our guide to which train tickets can be transferred.
Changing an Avanti Advance ticket vs. selling it
Avanti Advance fares are non-refundable, but they can be changed to a different date or train for a £10 admin fee plus any fare difference. That’s worth checking if you just need to move your travel date — but if the journey isn’t happening at all, changing it doesn’t return any money. Selling does.
Example
You paid £36.50 for an Advance single from London Euston to Glasgow Central — a journey Avanti covers in around 4 hours 36 minutes on its fastest direct services. Changing to another day could cost £10 plus any fare increase. Selling the original ticket for up to £36.50 gets your money back in full, with nothing deducted from you as the seller.
Delayed instead of unused? That’s Delay Repay, not resale
If you travelled and Avanti’s train ran late, you may be owed compensation, not a resale. Avanti runs the DR15 scheme — the lowest threshold of the operators we cover — paying out from just 15 minutes’ delay: 25% of your fare for 15–29 minutes, 50% for 30–59 minutes, and 100% for 60 minutes or more, claimable within 28 days of travel. Selling a ticket only applies before the journey happens; once you’ve boarded, Delay Repay is the route to compensation instead.
Where Avanti tickets sell fastest
London Euston is Avanti’s hub, and Euston to Glasgow Central is the route with the most consistent buyer demand on SaveMyFare, followed closely by Euston to Manchester Piccadilly and Euston to Liverpool Lime Street. If you’re specifically selling a London to Manchester ticket, we also have a dedicated guide for that route covering pricing and timing in more depth.

Common questions
Can I sell an Avanti West Coast Advance ticket?
Yes, provided it meets the National Rail transfer conditions: it isn’t made out in your name or tied to a Railcard, your journey hasn’t started, and you don’t sell it for more than you paid. Avanti Advance fares are tied to a specific train, so the buyer needs to travel on the exact service printed on the ticket — see our full Advance ticket transfer guide for the complete rules.
My Avanti train was delayed — is that a resale situation?
No — a delay to a train you actually travelled on is a Delay Repay claim, not a resale. Avanti runs the DR15 scheme: 25% of your fare back for a 15–29 minute delay, 50% for 30–59 minutes, and 100% for 60 minutes or more, claimable within 28 days. Selling only applies before you’ve travelled — see what to do with a non-refundable train ticket for the full picture.
Does my seat reservation transfer with an Avanti ticket?
Most Avanti Advance fares include a reserved seat as standard, shown on the seat-back displays on the Pendolino fleet or the newer Evero trains. Include the coach and seat number in your SaveMyFare listing so the buyer knows exactly where to sit — the reservation goes with the ticket, not with you.
Do I need an Avanti account to sell my ticket on SaveMyFare?
No. Listing and selling happens entirely through SaveMyFare — you enter the ticket details, a buyer pays through our secure checkout, and you transfer the ticket to them directly. Avanti's own systems aren't involved in the sale itself.
What if my Avanti ticket was bought with a Railcard discount?
Railcard-discounted tickets are generally not transferable, since the discount is tied to the cardholder rather than the ticket. A buyer without that Railcard could be treated as travelling without a valid ticket, so check for a Railcard reference before listing.
SaveMyFare is an independent ticket resale marketplace and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Avanti West Coast. “Avanti West Coast”, “Pendolino” and “Evero” are used here to describe the operator and trains a ticket is valid on, in line with National Rail’s published Conditions of Travel.
